LSA is a division of the Industrial Fabrics Association International. The purpose of LSA is to promote the use and growth of lightweight structures and to represent the interests and concerns of the lightweight structures industry in the Americas.
Lightweight structures are characterized by having a rather small mass relative to the applied load, which is determined through an optimization process. Lightweight Structures are defined as tensile (or tension) structures, frame supported, air supported, air inflated, cable net, cable-and-strut (also referred to as tensegrity), geodesic domes and grid shells.
The largest soccer stadium in the country, the Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium features a billowing shading canopy of PTFE fabric membrane attached to an intricate tensioned steel cable structure designed, engineered, and installed by Birdair, Inc. The canopy design offers spectators an effective shade system with a touch of Middle Eastern flair.
