What materials are used in the cable or wire rope systems used in tension fabric design? | | The two material types used are mild steel (which is typically galvanized) and stainless steel. Mild steel cable systems are typically more cost effective, but lack in aesthetic appeal and long term corrosion resistance. Stainless steel cable systems are typically more compact, architecturally pleasing, and require little maintenance during their life span.

What type of connection hardware is used to connect the cable systems to the fabric panels to the super structure? | | There are many types of hardware to provided connections to the super structure. They are mostly used in conjunction with wire rope or cable assemblies. Typically the cable termination hardware requires a clevis or a toggle end along with a cable tensioning device such as a turnbuckle or compact adjuster. The fittings can swaged onto the cable or crimped.

What is the typical turnaround time for a fabric structure? | | No two structures are alike and it takes just as much time to work on a small project as a big one. The process is usually broken up into 4 phases: design/engineering, construction documents/shop drawings, fabrication and installation. The time for each phase is dependent on the design, details, materials chosen, location and current work load, just to name a few.
|
What is the typical life span of a fabric structure? | | It all depends on the material used, its location and the maintenance program established. There are materials with 2 year warranties and materials that are still up after 25 years. Architectural fabrics come in a variety of base clothes and different topcoats. It?s important to choose the material which best fits the applications and life span of the building type. The project?s location can play a role because it may be located in an area with high pollution or be enclosing a volatile substance. Most importantly is to have a routine maintenance program much like you would have for any traditional material. |
