UCF CITF Pool Complex Shade Structure |
3500 square foot tensile fabric structure, utilizing three 30 inch diameter steel columns sixty five feet tall that have cable supported booms. The structure is also tied back by cables to fourteen foot tall tripods made of twelve inch steel pipe.

Why was it Manufactured? The canopy is designed to give shade and weather protection to a portion of a new resort pool and recreation complex for students living on campus.
Where is it Located? The University of Central Florida Campus in Orlando Florida
What is Unique About the Structure and/or what technical difficulties were overcome to make it a reality? The main masts with large booms set against the rolling sea tile mosaic background play on a nautical theme of a large sailing yacht. Also two of the masts lean out and the membrane ties back to tripods helping achieve a more linear form to agree with the site geometry. The pool services building and the pool itself leave no room for practical tie backs in other directions.
How Did the Project Achieve the Client’s Needs? The canopy effectively shades and protects the necessary space and doubles as an instant landmark for the university with a dramatic shape that creates a dynamic architectural statement. It will also be lit from underneath for an exciting visual display at night.
